MITRE National Security (MNS) is leading a major system engineering and integration initiative, “Push to Europe” (P2E), to address the chronic threat to international security posed by Russian aggression and broader European security issues. The Director will utilize MITRE core competencies in complex system of systems engineering to assess, model, develop, and prototype communications and enterprise systems interoperability and capability solutions to address pressing shortfalls. The Director will advise the European security community and leadership on architectural and acquisition approaches for accelerating capability to the field. The Director will coordinate across MITRE efforts to advise NATO, US Defense and Intelligence organizations (USEUCOM, USAFRICOM, and Service Component leaders), capability development partners (e.g., SCO, DARPA, JAIC, RCOs and/or RRTOs), NATO members, and African partners to define, develop and deliver rapid capabilities in direct support of pacing operational gaps. Utilizing existing and evolving operational plans, the Director will ensure unity across all MITRE organizations (MNS, MPS, Labs, etc.) towards Joint outcomes and capabilities, while balancing organizational equities, and supporting sponsors responsible for operating the aforementioned capabilities. The outcomes of these efforts will support acquisition and investment decision making as well inform supporting CONOPS, TTPs and operational planning considerations.
In addition to the regional focus, this director will focus on US National Security Mission challenges, first on the Russian threat in the European AOR, and to NATO specifically, and second on threats (influence, economic, other) posed by China and Russia in AFRICA, as well as portions of Europe. Finally, climate change poses threats in these AORs as it does globally, and the work program will include climate change implications to both US national security and public sector concerns.
The Director, MITRE Europe and Africa will ensure coordinated efforts directed towards USEUCOM, USAFRICOM and their Service Components with the goal of enabling Joint capability and capacity. The Director will report to the Managing Director, Joint Staff and Combatant Commands (N250). The Director will partner closely with the MNS cognizant directors to develop, synchronize, and oversee direct US DoD and IC support (A&SF, Army, Navy, DIA, and FMS), NATO, and Direct Commercial Sales activities in Europe and Africa to encompass all Europe and Africa focused work. The Director will also have regular dialog and take strategic direction from the VP for Joint and Services, VP Air and Space Force, VP for Intelligence and VP for Cross Cutting Priorities.
The Director will interface with key stakeholders responsible for capability development, integration, and fielding to establish critical areas of MITRE support with emphasis on selection, integration and fielding of near-term capabilities for US, NATO and coalition partners, with overarching focus consistent with and supportive of US National Security interests. The Director will partner with other MITRE leaders to develop trusted advisor relationships with US DoD, IC, NATO, NATO Member state, and other US coalition partner nation leadership leading to organizational access, strategically appropriate work opportunities, and meaningful impact. The Director will leverage their deep and broad understanding of MITRE’s diverse capabilities and business areas to oversee and lead efforts to bring MITRE’s existing work/capabilities, skills, expertise, and investments to U.S. and its allies’ international security challenges across Europe and Africa.
This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
