Textile Engineer I

Overview

Provides engineering support for all aspects of assigned development project to ensure functionality, quality, design, cost, and schedule by performing the following duties. Directs and coordinates activities of firm engaged in Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, and Program Management for the success of the project, by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

Effectively participates and contributes in telecoms with overseas Engineering and Program Management by applying Textile Engineering knowledge, discussing manufacturing issues, and also suggesting potential seat development topics and innovations.
Interfaces with outside suppliers by providing Engineering guidance to cut and sew suppliers of seat covers.
Develop prototype samples as well as reference samples in collaboration with cut and sew suppliers.
Participate in workshops in which aforementioned samples are developed.
Work with supplier to ensure producibility and repeatability of serial production units.
Maintain proper documentation of the concept development stage, which includes product definition, concept description and material specifications.
Assists in creating bills of material for aircraft seat components and assemblies.
Assists in creating design change notification documents.
Creates presentations outlining design direction and/or design issues
Responds to concerns of customers by making design changes in seat design and components in a manner that meets customer expectations and are in conformance with applicable regulations.
Attends design meetings with Project Engineers to discuss Engineering issues, including design changes and requests from customers.
Supports Purchasing by providing the necessary documentation to support the sourcing of parts.
Supports Production by ensuring serial production units are fabricated in such a way to ensure a repeatable and quality installation.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (BA) in Textile or Garment Technology at a four-year college or university preferred; 0 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Experience:

Have experience and/or knowledge in pattern making and industrial manufacturing.
Have experience and/or knowledge with foam design as well as plastic or metal integration within textiles.
Working knowledge of CAD software for pattern making, digitizing, industrial cutting machine and industrial sewing machines.
Knowledge of different types of textile materials and their processes for sewing.
Working knowledge of various textile testing machines and 12-second vertical burn testing. Ability to read and understand technical data sheets for fabric, leather and synthetic leather.

Computer Skills:

Working knowledge of 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design (CATIA V5 a plus).
PC/ Microsoft office suite proficiency

Travel Requirements:

Employees are expected to travel up to 25% of the time both Domestic and International may be required.
