Software Engineer (Backend) - Sustainability in Berlin bei Zalando

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services to ensure seamless and efficient solutions, fulfilling both technical and business needs.

• Work closely with cross-platform engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Making and owning architectural decisions with other engineering seniors, contributing to the priorities, evangelizing the documentation, learning from incidents and demonstrating operational excellence.

• Establishing trust and technical excellence not just within the Sustainability team, but collaborating and evangelizing within wider internal product and engineering teams.

• Ensuring we engineer reliable and technically compliant solutions.

• 3+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer using JVM based languages like Java, Kotlin, etc.

• Hands-on experience working with SQL storage technologies. A keen interest in working with Data and a data analytical mindset. Experience with data engineering technologies and NoSQL technologies is a big plus.

• Experience working with cloud native application development.

• An avid advocate of engineering best practices (clean code, readability, test-drive-development, etc.) and operational excellence (Site Reliability Engineering practices).

• Ability to work in a greenfield product area and cope with the resulting uncertainty; readiness to solve customer problems by taking unconventional approaches like contributing to the codebase and features owned by other teams.

• Intrinsic drive and passion for helping millions of our customers choose a more responsible approach to buying fashion by considering the impact on our environment and society.

• Very good communication skills and experience working in diverse environments, building customer-facing experiences.
