The Position Patient Safety & Pharmacovigilance is accountable for benefit/risk analysis and assessment of all BI investigational compounds and marketed products.
The (Senior) Safety Data Scientist will deliver successful data engineering and data science projects related to patient safety questions in One Medicine.
The responsibility of the (Senior) Safety Data Scientist is grounded in a solid understanding of the business problem and a profound knowledge of pharmacovigilance practices (including safety data analyses, signal management, medical risk profiling, and benefit-risk assessments).
It includes the responsibility for designing and building data visualizations, statistical models and machine learning algorithms for non-routine business problems, in cooperation with other data engineers and scientists across One Medicine.
Tasks & responsibilities - Deliver successful data engineering and data science projects
- Design, prototype, and build the next-generation analytics and services for pharmacovigilance projects, in cooperation with other departments in One Medicine
- Identify, evaluate and implement the most promising data pipeline and/or algorithm for the given data science task
- Find robust and smart solutions for patient safety questions that are simple to use, and that avoid unnecessary complexity
- Establish close collaborations with data owners across One Medicine, to enable smart decision making
Additional responsibilities as Senior Safety Data Scientist role:
- Can identify data sources and methods to generate insights for benefit/risk and patient safety purposes
- Has profound technical and/or domain expertise to influence and drive the data science discussions in One Medicine
- Can actively drive the development of statistical and machine learning models
- Represents PSPV data science both inside and outside Boehringer Ingelheim
Requirements - Master's degree in life sciences, pharmacy, or medicine, or in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, bioinformatics, etc.; an advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD, MD) is a plus
- Proven track record in data engineering and/or data science; advanced skills in converting raw data into actionable business insights
- Hands-on experience and capacity to code in relevant computing languages such as R or Python
- Knowledge and previous work experience in any of the following areas is a plus: Real world data and evidence, observational studies, interventional Studies, translational medicine, pharmacology
- Understanding of contemporary concepts in artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics and natural language processing, and capacity to discuss these concepts with peers across One Medicine
- Understanding of various data formats, ETL processes, database queries, concepts, operations, and architectures
- First-hand experience of agile working methods
- Can inspire data-driven decisions, and help resolving impediments before they impact the project
- English working proficiency and communication skills (verbal and written)
Additional requirements for the Senior Safety Data Scientist role
- Multiple years of experience in relevant computing languages and data concepts
- Can operate independently, in complex environments with domain experts from various disciplines
- Can mentor and coach safety data scientists, and lead problem solving & ideation
