PhD Position (65% TV-L 13)
in
Identification and manipulation of neuronal circuits underlying olfactory-mediated habituation/discrimination behavior
The position is limited for three years and embedded in the Bonn Neuroscience research consortium, which aims at deciphering synaptic networks and network computations in health and disease. The project is part of a collaboration between the Institute of Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research at the University Hospital Bonn and the Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at the University Bonn. It has a strong focus on olfactory-guided behavior in combination with novel virus-based circuit mapping tools (Cal-Light, FLARE) for the characterization of the complex computations involved in memory formation.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, team-oriented young scientist with a strong interest in systems neuroscience, data science, and connectomics. Experience in molecular biology, animal experimentation, and light microscopy is advantageous.
The Ph.D. project is part of the DFG-funded SFB Program “Synaptic Micronetworks in Health and Disease (1089)” and will be integrated into the BIGS Neuroscience Ph.D. Program at the University Bonn, which is embedded in a vibrant and collaborative research environment including the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the high-profile research institutes Caesar and DZNE. This multidisciplinary research environment guarantees an optimally structured and student-centered, English language-based Ph.D. program with extensive training and support.
