You will conduct research in the field of development of catalysts and electrodes for water AEM electrolysis and hybrid water electrolysis in the group of Corina Andronescu, located at the University Duisburg-Essen. You will also be responsible for planning and carrying out laboratory-scale AEM electrolysis experiments using model electrodes and model membranes. You will test the stability of AEM electrolysis on a laboratory scale as a function of the water components. Analyse the electrochemical activity of electrodes after prolonged electrolysis using different water compositions and the electrocatalytic activity of catalyst materials exposed to harsh conditions (simulation of the conditions in an AEM electrolyser during the shutdown period).
Another field of activity is the synthesis of electrodes by electrodeposition. Development of a high-throughput process for the rapid screening of catalyst materials on a multi-metal basis.
The electrochemical testing of different electrocatalyst materials, the data evaluation, the analysis of the results, the correlation of the electrochemical data with the structural data and the preparation of a manuscript are planned. It is expected that the data will be stored according to FAIR principles.
You will produce high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences and write manuscripts. In addition, contribution to practical experiments and supervision of bachelor and master students is expected.
We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated employee with an excellent academic record. We expect him/her to have an interest in interdisciplinary projects.
- Above-average university degree in Chemistry, chemical engineering or physics (diploma or master's degree) with at least 8 semesters of regular study time
- previous scientific experience (e.g. knowledge of empirical research methods, laboratory procedures, experience with statistical analyses and corresponding software/other applications) necessary/desirable
- In addition, you will be involved in the implementation and execution of courses, and/or the supervision of students
- Previous experience in electrocatalysis, in particular in the field of testing of gas diffusion electrodes, N2 activation is an advantage.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
- Knowledge of the German language is preferred but not mandatory.
Within the framework of the activity, opportunities for further scientific qualification are offered.
- a varied, multifaceted field of activity in a research-intensive environment
- an interesting, responsible job with great creative potential, where you will get to know the diverse tasks and developments of research transfer and have contacts with almost all areas of the UDE
- Interdisciplinary research at a very high level
- a non-discriminatory working environment with respectful, appreciative cooperation
- a pleasant working atmosphere in a dynamic team
- a broad range of further education and training opportunities, individual mentoring
- attractive sports and health offers (university sports)
