The Company
Marathon Targets designs, manufactures, and operates autonomous robotic target systems to provide the most realistic live-fire training in the world. The targets address a fundamental training gap: the first time shooters fire live ammunition at a realistic moving target is in a firefight.
Marathon is an International company with subsidiaries worldwide. The European operational headquarters is located near Frankfurt, Germany.
The Role
The role involves providing technical support to customers and supporting sales activities in Europe, with a focus on Germany.
Primary tasks include:
- Operating and maintaining the Marathon system as part of the Marathon rental service.This includes:
- Setup in preparation for training:
- Transporting the equipment to customer sites around Europe.
- Discussing training with instructors, translating trainers' intent into software scenarios which the robots can execute.
- Range setup: setting up communications equipment, surveying the range, clearing robot running areas of large debris
- Operation of the robots during training:
- Running training scenarios and monitoring targets' state through the robot-control software.
- Adapting the targets' behaviour on-the-spot according to progress of trainees and real-time directions from instructors.
- Post-training activities:
- Target maintenance and charging.
- Reporting on training activities and target usage.
- Liaising with Marathon head office in Australia to facilitate improvements based on actual usage.
- Visiting customer sites to conduct maintenance/repair as well as training courses for system operation and maintenance.
- Supporting the Marathon service location in Alsfeld, near Frankfurt, Germany.
- Business development and sales activities:
- Product demonstrations and trade fair visits.
- Eliciting customer requirements.
Requirements
- The following skills/attributes are required:
- Confidence operating computers.
- A high mechanical aptitude and some basic experience with electrical debugging.
- Ability to work in the field and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Must be physically able to move around on large training ranges for long durations.
- Ability to work effectively without supervision.
- Ability to deal with uncertainty and changing plans.
- A willingness to occasionally work long hours and at night.
- Holder of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- The following skills/attributes are desirable:
- Prior military or law enforcement service
- Location close to our service location in Alsfeld near Frankfurt. Alternatively, willingness to spend at least one week per month in Alsfeld - in addition to other travel.
- Language skills:
- English: very good skills expected
- German: desirable but not required
- This role does not require a specific technical degree or expertise. However, a technical mindset and the ability to troubleshoot is essential. We will provide training in the particulars of operation & maintenance of the system
