Institut und Lehrstuhl für Integrierte Photonik
At the Institute of Integrated Photonics we investigate semiconductor based optical components and their integration into complex photonic systems on semiconductor chips. A special focus is on devices which can be fabricated CMOS compatible on Si substrates. These PICs can be used for example in optical telecommunication, biosensors or medical technology.
In the past 2.5 years, IPH has built a new clean room with production facilities at CDPP. This is operated in close cooperation with the faculty's cleanroom center CMNT. Together they form one of the largest clusters for micro- and nanofabrication in Europe.
- Bachelor's degree and immatriculation in a consecutive course in physics, electrical engineering or chemistry with interest in a long-term collaboration as part of writing a thesis
- Interest in working in a cleanroom, previous experience is a plus
- Theoretical background in nanofabrication
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Very high level of reliability and diligence at work
- Affinity and initial experience in laboratory work
The Chair of Integrated Photonics (IPH) is looking for a student for the fabrication of integrated photonic circuits (PICs) in the clean room. We are looking for a Research Assistant with Bachelor's degree (f/m/d) to join asap, who is interested in a long-term cooperation and would like to write a master thesis (e.g. starting April 1st 2024) with us. The knowledge required for the production of PICs will be taught as part of the Assistant activity. Sound previous knowledge is welcome but not absolutely necessary. We therefore welcome applications from students of physics or chemistry as well as applicants from electrical engineering.
The work includes supporting activities for the following tasks :
- Implementation of photolithography processes in the ZMNT
- Carrying out dry etching in the CDPP
- Chemical work on the wet benches including standard cleaning in CDPP and ZMNT
- Use of analysis tools in CDPP and ZMNT for process control
- Implementation of coatings using PVD and PECVD
- Optimization of the fabrication process and optical measurements in the laboratory
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term for an initial period of three months.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be zwischen 15 und 19 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 14,00 € per hour until 31.03.2024 and 15,20 € from 01.04.2024.
