I. SUMMARY This position is responsible for actively participating in all functions which are performed within the Payment Services department and may assume some responsibilities for the section in the absence of the Chief Clerk – Payment Services.
Under minimum supervision this position is responsible for processing and controlling transactions through the various payment systems applications, as well as answering in-person, telephone, email or work queue inquiries. Responsible for processing daily tasks related to Wires, EFTs, vouchers, Target Payments, and payment files utilizing the following payment systems/applications: OnBase, GEVA, Bundesbank, CashPro, Target, SWIFT, CREDEM, Barclays, AccessPay, CommerzBank (CoBa) and any other payment system and/or application necessary for completing daily tasks. Will utilize Fidelity (or similar) and the Microsoft Suite applications for tasks related to booking customer accounts or general ledger accounts.
Functions will be performed on a rotating basis to ensure cross-training and staying up-to-date on all processes is current and proficient.
II. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES - Responsible for confirming, processing, executing all required payment transfers over the appropriate correspondence bank web application/payment system as well as pulling daily reports, statements, and emails related to the above. GEVA, AccessPay, OnBase, Barclays, Bundesbank, TARGET, SWIFT, CashPro, CoBa, CREDEM, etc.
- Prepares monthly statistics related to volume of payments processed transaction frequency and quantity, number of credits and/or debits not processed with notes added as to what steps were taken and why the credits or debits could not applied.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of inward clearing transactions (automated and manual checks and direct debits received through the Bundesbank and other sources) and effecting accounting entries.
- Maintains and controls all accounts, preparing balance sheets, making payments, transferring funds to and from internal accounts to ensure account limits are maintained as outlined in the respective correspondence bank contract, and ensuring that outgoing payments are released to the Bundesbank (German Central Bank) in time prior to any transfer time cutoffs established by the Bundesbank.
- Performs settlement and prepared for deposit various checks for collection through our correspondent bank.
- Responsible for receiving, controlling and balancing incoming house checks presented by German Banks through the German Central Bank LZB
- Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of UK inward and clearing transactions by use of the Barclays.net, iPortal, and BACS applications.
- Responsible for the correct disposition of dishonored checks and direct debits. Prepares transactions to be returned through the German Central Bank (LZB) to presenting banks, ensuring all items are returned in accordance with German banking regulations to avoid financial losses.
- Resolves all incoming inquiries from German banks, Finance offices and banking centers, conducting investigations where necessary.
Performs other reasonable duties as assigned and required.
A. Education and Knowledge
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree
- German Bankkaufmann/-frau or equivalent
- Experience in an international payment processing environment
- Sound knowledge of domestic and international payment systems
- Sound knowledge of check clearing processes and procedures
