As a gameplay programmer at our studio, you will be responsible for implementing gameplay mechanics, features, and ship abilities using Unreal Engine and C++ code. You will work closely with our team of developers and designers to ensure that the game is not only technically sound, but also fun and engaging for players.

To excel in this role, it is important that you have a strong understanding of game design principles and the ability to create immersive gameplay experiences. You should also be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to work well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Implementing gameplay mechanics, features, up to full side quests, and ship abilities using Unreal Engine and C++ code
• Collaborating with the development team to ensure that the game is fun and engaging for players
• Understanding the basics of game design and creating immersive gameplay experiences
• Working well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Troubleshoot and debug gameplay-related issues
• Optimize gameplay code for performance and maintainability
• Being passionate about space games and excited to work at an independent studio

Requirements

• Experience with Unreal Engine 4
• Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints visual scripting
• Solid understanding of C++ and debugging in a game development environment
• Experience with game development tools and methods
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging and optimization skills
• Team player, self-driven and willing to learn
• Openenss to work with existing code base to develop and enhance gameplay
• Great passion for sci-fi shooter games and movies
• Sufficient English language skills to follow the conversation in team meetings and understand project documentation

Bonus Skills

• Experience with Unreal Engine 5
• Experience with the Gameplay Ability System
• Experience with Animations and Animation Blueprints
• Experience with AI behavior trees and EQS
• Experience with multiplayer games is highly desirable
• Experience in profiling and optimization
• Speaking German is a plus
