Mercedes-Benz AG is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world. As the inventor of the automobile, we are one of the largest suppliers of premium passenger cars and the most valuable premium automotive brand in the world.
Mercedes-Benz Cars Operations is responsible for passenger car production with more than 30 plants worldwide within a flexible and efficient global production network with approximately 78,000 employees on five continents. The internship takes place in cooperation PP/DP and MO/BTP.
The PP/DP area is concerned here with the central design, implementation, further development and control of digitization in the Mercedes operation. This ensures a standardized and targeted approach.
The MO/BTP department is responsible for the strategic planning of BodyTEC and is responsible for the production of highly complex tool molds, large-scale production of sheet metal parts and assemblies, and the design and implementation of plant technologies.
The Smart Operations Team
The Smart Data Operations team structures these digitalization activities of Mercedes-Benz Cars Operations. We, the team, act as a driver of the digitization efforts and are the central point of contact for the implementation of innovative technologies, including AI in the context of predictive maintenance. Among other things, we take on the role of implementation partner for the specialist departments from the idea through implementation to global rollout.
Laser Blanking Line: Cutting system for the production of blanks
The Laser Blanking Line technology is essentially characterized by the following system advantages:
- Tool-free cutting by laser
- Blanks are cut by a continuously running sheet metal belt
- High degree of flexibility
- High productivity due to cutting with 3 laser cutting heads
- CNC programming for contour design of blanks
- Potential for material utilization through nesting etc.
- Integrated blank cleaning with brush technology
- Product, coil and tooling change fully automatic in approx. 8 minutes
- Narrow and compact design of the overall system
The Laser Blanking Line (LBL) enables the production of single, double or multiple blanks made of steel sheet, high-strength steel sheet or aluminum sheet
These challenges are coming your way:
Target:
- Develop a method to predict equipment failures (predictive maintenance)
- Automation and visual representation of the prediction for the plant maintenance staff
- Creation of the implementation plan for the above AI application
Your tasks:
- Provide technical support in the predictive maintenance environment
- Data analysis and processing, pattern recognition
- Development of AI algorithms
- Development of visualizations and presentation of results
- Independent processing of the (sub-) work package, which results in the master thesis
- Communication with internal departments
- Contribution of technical know-how
- Familiarization with the cloud environment (especially DataBricks)
- Benchmarking of existing algorithms for AI implementation
- Verification of the results with the relevant project partners
