Masterand Camera-Based Depth Estimation for Night Driving Scenarios in Mönsheim bei Dr Ing h c F Porsche AG

The scope of this thesis is to research and evaluate existing camera-based depth estimation methods for night driving scenarios, which usually have low contrast and poor lighting. The thesis will take you from researching state of the art depth estimation methods, creating your own reference dataset using a test vehicle, and evaluating existing approaches on the data. To sum up, the thesis will consist of the following:

• Research state of the art methods for depth estimation
• Plan, organize, and execute the collection of reference data using camera and LIDAR in a real test vehicle
• Define appropriate metrics to evaluate the methods from your literature research on your own dataset
• Evaluate the methods from your literature research on your own dataset
• Document your results scientifically
• In case of excellent results, contribute to a research paper on a top conference

• Study in Computer Science
• Ideally with a focus on Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or similar
• Experience in Computer Vision & Machine Learning
• Experience in handling LIDAR data is a plus
• Good programming skills & experience in Python (OOP, versioning, testing)
• Experience in ROS is a plus
• Experience in Docker is a plus
• English and/or German
• Strong analytical thinking
• Research affinity
• Self-driven, goal-oriented mindset
• Structured way of working and ability to drive your own project forward
