Electrical Design Engineer – Electrical Architecture and Distribution in Grünheide (Mark) bei Tesla
What to Expect
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to join the Battery Structures Team as a launch and sustaining engineer. You will be in charge for the local release, launch, ramp, and sustaining of Structural Battery components and assemblies for upcoming Model Y production, and future Tesla vehicles, in Gigafactory Berlin. You will be part of the global team that designs structural aspect of the batteries in all of Tesla’s vehicles. You will be working with extremely motivated engineers that hold themselves to the highest standards. We are always pushing the limit on what is possible and challenging industry standards as well as our own. You must be excited to engineer the best EV in the world and will to push the limit. Because Tesla moves fast, it is critical to be able to adapt to changes and collarborate with large groups of people in a short amount of time. Successful members of the team will have a breadth of design engineering interests and capabilities as well as have an open mind that challenges boundaries and have “do whatever it takes” mindset.
What You’ll Do
- A solid electrical engineer who understands system level power delivery and grounding (could be from vehicles, servers, or such complex systems) and interconnect (electrical properties and reliability of wires, fuses, and connectors) and fundaments of serial communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, Bluetooth, DP, etc.)
- Electrical engineering design responsibility for a variety of electrical components and wire harnesses in Tesla vehicles, both in production and in development
- Support the engineers developing 2-d harness and wiring documentation to optimize topology/architecture for best cost/performance
- Engineering responsibility throughout all stages: concept, requirements definition, prototype, architecture development, circuitry design, tooling, design validation and optimization in Beta and RC phases, volume tooling and processes for Start of Production and production ramp-up. Life-cycle improvements and cost reductions as needed.
- Make design decisions, and coordinate with all other Tesla parties, for example: Body Controls, Systems Integration, PCBA Design, Materials Engineering, Environmental Testing, Mentor Graphics Integration, Guidance of component selection, Support of team during Vehicle Durability and Crash Test, Manufacturing Engineering, etc
- Identify and resolve concerns, such as high voltage drop in circuits, high power dissipation, fault current related to fuse characteristics, fuse coordination, reliability concerns on detailed design features and drive the solution progress to remove these concerns through weekly tests, follow ups, upper management deep-dive reviews and cross functional team reviews.
- Closely work with Reliability team to ensure proper testing on finished designs (vibe, corrosion, material testing, voltage drop, fuse-blow, EMI, etc.)
What You’ll Bring
- Develop and maintain tools to manage the wire, connector and parts libraries and crimp validations and Service documentation
- Optimization, rapid prototyping and full-scale/automated production.
- Experience with rigorous document control practices.
- Excellent team and person-to-person communication skills.
- Power delivery
- Communications/protocols
- Functional safety/redundancy/fault tolerance
- Cable and connector design
- System design
- Module design
- Analog and I/O expert
- PCB hardware design
- Board design and analysis
