Position Overview
We are seeking a high-energy, proactive individual to join our Site Leadership Team with expertise in Health and Safety but also includes responsibilities for Facilities. The primary objective of the role is to protect and enhance the safety of our employees and our Site through prevention, fostering a culture of caring where the function is ingrained as a core value, achieving world class performance. The position ensures compliance of all HS&F aspects of the Site and sets local strategies for overall success in alignment with corporate policy and common practices.
The primary place of work will be Trier Germany but will also travel to support our site in Munich as well.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Health and Safety (H&S)
- Apply for and maintain applicable permits as needed.
- Assist with coordinating ergonomic evaluations, performing assessments and providing recommendations and adjustments as necessary.
- Coordinate and administer new employee and annual safety training including biological, chemical, general, and physical protection in laboratories, hazardous materials, PPE, and BBP exposure.
- Create and review JSA (Job Safety Analysis) with cross-functional group along with Risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with local and Country specific H&S regulations, as well as Exact Sciences safety standards and corporate policies.
- Help oversee chemical inventory and acquisition, obtains SDS as needed, and ensures compliance with regulations regarding usage and storage.
- Lead and/or Support the H&S Safety Committees.
- Maintain, implement, track and update Exact Sciences EHS policies/programs/procedures as necessary and develop new programs as required.
- May function as the Chemical Hygiene Officer, Emergency Coordinator, Biological Safety Officer or other technical lead.
- Oversee the coordination of emergency response (evacuation, hazardous material release, etc.) efforts, and conduct EHS drills and trainings.
- Oversee the maintenance of emergency and first aid supplies.
- Perform quarterly, annual and periodic safety audits with Operations assistance. Safety audits include fire and electrical safety, ergonomics, chemical hygiene, general housekeeping, waste management, hazardous waste storage, personal protective equipment, and infection prevention.
- Support daily EHS activities (i.e. audits, incident investigations, corrective action follow-up etc.).
- Promote a positive relationship and interact with a variety of regulatory agencies and professionals such as, but not limited to the German occupational safety and health act (ArbSchG).

- Facilities
- As and when appropriate, support the laboratory management team who are responsible for laboratory operations.
- Coordinate any infrastructure changes to the building for new equipment or working practices, managing contractors when they are onsite.
- Develop, implements and coordinates all Fire Prevention/Protection programs coordinating with FM Global. This includes all required training, record keeping, monitoring and reporting programs and results.
- Ensure that a safe working environment is kept tidy and maintained, including undertaking regular H&S checks, raising any risks and repairs needed, then owning the corrective actions.
- Implement a strategy that effectively utilises proactive (preventive and predictive) maintenance/EHS techniques and performance monitoring to detect early degradation and employ timely solutions to prevent failure.
- Inspect facilities, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure regulation compliance.
- Manage the external space so it is clean, tidy and maintained.
- Manage schedules and upkeep of service and utility contracts such as cleaners, plants, shredding and water machines.
- Represent Exact Sciences Innovation in a professional and welcoming manner to any visitors to the site especially when front of house.
- Review plans and specifications for construction or installation of building and new equipment to ensure that all safe-workplace requirements have been met.
- Support builds certified practitioners within the facilities. Lead kaizen events to drive improvements.
- Support lead and create a strategic plan for management of all facilities such as Janitorial, HVAC/HEAT, electrical, plumbing.
- Work with the Landlord’s Building Manager to resolve any building maintenance issues, ensuring they are completed in a timely manner.
