Position overview:
Reporting to the Director / Sr Director Medical Affairs International, this Medical Affairs leadership role is accountable for the successful development and execution of local medical strategies and plans that enhance regulatory approval, customer access and adoption of Omnipod products in the European region. The medical plans encompass value-generating activities on medical education, evidence generation and dissemination, HCP and KOL engagement, and internal knowledge and insights translation. This role leads, aligns with and influences cross-functional partners such as commercial, marketing, market access, regulatory, sales excellence, in their country/region to ensure the establishment of strategies and execution of regional medical plans in alignment with local business objectives. They are part of the Global Medical Affairs managerial team.
The Director Medical Affairs Europe leads, inspires and coaches a team of Country-based Medical Affairs Senior Managers and Managers who are dedicated to deliver world-class Medical Affairs capabilities in single or multiple European countries. This leadership role ensures that the European team is delivering their in-country plans according to the local business needs and objectives, with high quality standards and scientific excellence.
This individual deploys strategic thinking to ensure the establishment of plans that address the complexity of 18+ fast-growing market needs and types (direct and indirect distribution) within Europe. Additionally, they are accountable for the Medical Affairs function to provide the necessary input to the business assessments and related workstreams that are determining the future global expansion roadmap, as well as how the products should be successfully launched in a given market from a medical perspective. They will work in collaboration with the respective Franchise units and product launches team, to ensure the information, education, and research needs of HCPs are met and to ensure scientific and technical training needs of commercial and advocacy organizations are identified and met.
They will have and maintain an in-depth understanding of diabetes, the current and future treatment landscape along with ongoing clinical research with a focus on the diabetes device market.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the Development and the implementation of the European Medical Affairs strategy aligned to commercial business priorities and corporate strategy.
- Lead, coach and mentor a team of Medical Affairs professionals accountable for all European markets where Insulet has a commercial presence directly or through distributors. (5 staff and 19+ countries)
- Provide the necessary medical input and leadership to successful Insulet’s global market expansion activity, entering into new direct and indirect distribution markets.
- Generate and leverage data to highlight the benefits of Omnipod products and build confidence with prescribers in line the company’s global commercial objectives.
- Establish and maintain credible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with national/regional KOLs.
- Lead clinical and scientific exchange with KOLs and HCPs regarding the companies marketed and pipeline products.
- Build and share knowledge with internal and external stakeholders regarding the use and benefits of current and future products.
- Facilitate effective national, regional, and local educational forums including advisory boards, congress symposia, and sponsored educational and promotional programs.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners leveraging available data to build a strong and compelling value story for local payers to maximize patient access for current and future products.
- Lead scientific and medical congresses planning and attend sessions to capture information relevant to the organization’s scientific platforms and report this information to senior leadership and internal
