We are seeking for a Bench Scientist / Senior Scientist I (all genders) Bioassay Sciences and Development (permanent / full or part-time) for functional characterization of and biological activity assay development for therapeutic and aesthetic neurotoxins and other modalities in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
In this laboratory-focused position:
- You will take a leading role in developing in vitro cell-based assay formats to drive development of AbbVie’s neurotoxin pipeline.
- You will be actively involved in the development of assays to support our toxin portfolio. In this regard, you will also play a fundamental role as contact person for occupational health and safety.
- You will work in cross-functional teams with colleagues from other groups adjacent to our Development Sciences organization, both at Abbvie Ludwigshafen and at other AbbVie sites.
- Your expertise will allow a fundamental assessment and functional characterization of the interplay between proteins, lipids, and detergents.
- As a member of the Bioassay Science and Development team, you will be able to benefit from the team’s strong background in functional characterization of biologics.
This is how you can make a difference:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically, 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience in in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, biophysics, or related fields, PhD and no experience necessary. Professional training may be substituted for equivalent knowledge gained through work experience as an Associate Scientist / Scientist.
- You have experience with binding and in vitro cell-based assay development.
- You are skilled in the field of designing and qualifying in vitro cell-based assays to reflect the molecule’s relevant mode of action.
- You have a strong understanding of cell culture and fundamental molecular biology techniques (e. g. construct design, primer generation, cloning).
- You have a strong experience in the biology of membrane proteins, their purification, solubilization and stabilization (e.g., lipids, nanodiscs and detergent) and subsequent functional tests.
- Experience with enzyme activity assays is considered a plus.
- Previous experience with Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations, especially in the field of neurotoxins (e.g., handling and disposal, operating instruction writing and review…) is desired.
- You are skilled in analyzing and presenting data in broader context, and you are eager to defend data during scientific debate in local and global teams.
- As a highly motivated, self-driven and results-oriented person with excellent communication and presentation skills you are driven by innovative ways of thinking to improve processes, methods, systems, products, or services.
