We are interested in basic principles of immune activation and effector control mechanisms in the
fields of viral immunology, immunological cancer therapy and auto-immunity. To determine such
general molecular and cellular mechanisms we use high-end analysis technology (scRNAseq,
GWAS, high-resolution microscopy,…) in in vitro and in vivo models. Currently we have open
projects on immune exhaustion by cancer cells (Adomati T et al. , Cell Rep. 2020), chronic virus
infection (Khairnar V et al. Nat Commun. 2018) and antiviral control mechanisms (Lang J et al. Nat
Commun. 2020). Projects can be performed in a joint research cooperation (i.e. SFB-, Transregio-
and Graduate School) or other institutions (i.e. Ontario Cancer Center, Toronto, Canada, the
National Institutes of Health (NIH), Maryland, United States, the Weizmann Institute of Science,
Rehovot, Israel), which we cooperate very closely with.
