Engineer* Desi and Test Planning for Wind Energy Systems in Bremerhaven

Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at nine sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

This team is looking for you ...
You will be part of the group »Test Planning and Evaluation« at our site in Bremerhaven. Our work revolves around the operation of various test benches, including a nacelle test bench with which we can test complete systems or individual components. Our focus lies on mechanical integration, the development of new test and measurement methods, and data evaluation. At present, the team consists of two research associates and several students. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, are particularly important to us.

What you will do

These duties awaiting you ...
You will take care of the integration of a wide range of DUTs on our test benches, coordinate the team members involved in the setup, and support us in the control center operation. In addition, you will oversee process steps such as component and system design. You will communicate with industrial customers as well as with internal and external service providers while ensuring compliance with the assembly plan and schedule you create. You will take on project management tasks, and, if you are comfortable, you can also manage individual work packages or research and development projects over time.

No two days are ever the same!
Do you enjoy being creative in your work? Perfect, as you will design special components with CAD programs here to allow us to find solutions for even the most unusual challenges. We will also need your ideas regarding the application of your results to future industrial and research projects. Furthermore, you will be involved with writing publications and research papers to present the topics you have worked on. Presenting your results at conferences is also a possibility.

What you bring to the table

What is your specialist background?
You have completed your diploma or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, which has given you a solid understanding of mechanical engineering, machine elements, and their design. Perhaps you also completed an industrial apprenticeship. Are you familiar with component and system design for DUT integration? Great! Do you also have an understanding of logistics planning? Ideally, you will already have some knowledge of drive trains.

Would you like to put theory into practice by working on both test bench preparation and test execution? Perhaps you would like to get involved with scientific analyses and publications? Or have you some experience working with cranes and gantry cranes? Ideally, you are already familiar with CAD and FEM software? Do not worry if you do not have all the skills in your repertoire just yet though – you can also get your career off to a flying start with us, too. If you do already have experience, you can expand upon it. Here at IWES, we operate on an international level – a good command of German and English will make your day-to-day work easier.
