Collects refuse from refuse containers (e.g. dumpsters, ninety (90) or three hundred (300) gallon containers, compactor units) by driving and operating a refuse collection vehicle; safely collects refuse from assigned service locations within time frame allowed;

Maneuvers refuse collection vehicle to obtain proper position for refuse collection and observes and avoids other vehicles, power lines, trees, and other potential obstacle;

Operates mechanical devices from the cab of the truck to lift and dump containers and returns containers to original locations; picks up refuse that spills out during container collection;

Operates packer and ejector blades in order to compact and dump refuse at designated dumping site;

Loads roll-off containers onto vehicle, covers load with tarp, empties container at disposal site, and returns and, if applicable, reconnects container;

Connects and disconnects various hook-ups and links including winches, hydraulic hoses, safety connectors, and deodorizers;

Inspects refuse collection vehicle to check for exterior damage and ensure proper working condition, including packer and ejector blades, mechanical lifting devices, flashers, brakes, tires, gauges, and fuel;

Prepares Pre-Route Checklist/Daily Collection Route Information sheet and other reports as required, reports damaged containers observed during route;

Performs minor preventive maintenance on refuse collection vehicle as necessary, including replacing worn side loader grippers, greasing grippers, and adding oil, water, and transmission, and hydraulic fluids, etc.;

Maintains the refuse collection vehicle by cleaning the interior and rear hopper to remove refuse at end of shift

Communicates with the public to notify them of improperly prepared refuse items, to facilitate service to exemption residents, and to respond to requests for information or refer them to the proper personnel when necessar

May utilize a mobile device to get directions and locate addresses with mapping software, receive messages and communicate with supervisors, and input refuse collection exceptions and other related data.
