The Institut für Umwelt & Energie, Technik & Analytik e. V. (IUTA) is a private non-profit research institute in Duisburg, Germany, and adjunct institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The department Filtration & Aerosol Research deals with a wide range of research questions in the fields of Air Quality, Filtration and Aerosol Technology.
In the course of a research project funded by the EU under the Horizon Europe program, possibilities for reducing particulate emissions from the brakes of rail vehicles and buses are to be investigated. For this purpose, the size distribution and composition of the emitted particles are to be determined on a dynamometer brake test bench. An appropriate aerosol sampling system, including an enclosure for the brake, needs to be developed and constructed. This setup will then be used to perform experimental test series at an external test bench operator in order to evaluate the efficacy of the brake dust mitigation measures developed by other partners within the project. In addition to the development of the setup and the execution of the measurements, the data evaluation as well as the communication with the European project partners are part of the range of tasks of the position to be filled.
Within the framework of the project, there is an immediate vacancy for a

- University degree (M. Sc. or equivalent) in engineering (ideally mechanical of automotive engineering), a natural or environmental science
- Experience in aerosol sampling and measurement and/or brake dust analysis
- Proficient use of common software tools for data analysis (e.g. Excel, MATLAB, R, Origin)
- Very good knowledge of English and knowledge of German language
