Industrial Engineer* ‒ Technology Analysis and Sustainable Chemistry in Leuna bei Wind Energy Systems

Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at nine sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

This team is looking for you ...
You will be part of the group »Stakeholder Management« at our site in Bremerhaven. We form the interface between research, industry, and politics. We do so by developing and maintaining long-term, strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. With a special focus on innovation management, we provide the necessary space to develop and realize innovative ideas. At present, the team consists of five employees and several students. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, are particularly important to us.

What you will do

These duties awaiting you ...
You will be involved in various projects here. In the »House of Transfer (HoT)« project, where you will help to advance the Central German Materials Network 2035 by identifying development paths for key processes and technologies (which currently rely on fossil fuels) towards renewable alternatives. To do so, you will analyze chemicals at the four chemical sites in the Central German region which could be obtained from renewable raw materials in the future. In addition, you will also review the technologies and processes required to produce these chemicals. Finally, you will evaluate the area’s raw materials in order to draw up recommendations for actions, investments, and possible relocations. To this end, you will attend events and meetings to explore relevant issues and present your results at corresponding specialist events.

No two days are ever the same!
In our institute, a study on the topic of hydrogen demands is already in the draft stage. Your role will be to finalize the content of the full version and to develop a suitable publication format by coordinating with the commissioning party. Regardless of the projects you are involved in, you will also act as a bridge between the group and external/internal stakeholders. To this end, you will research and collect specialized knowledge, mainly on chemistry, hydrogen, and wind energy, and compile this collected information into a database. You will also create an overview of all relevant topics for the Fraunhofer IWES, HoT, and the current state of science.

What you bring to the table

What is your specialist background?
You have completed your diploma or master’s degree in Engineering Management or a similar subject. Have you already demonstrated your analytical and scientific skills? Do you possess a thorough understanding of technology and economics, particularly in relation to processes and technologies in the sectors bio-economy, chemicals, plastics, and hydrogen? Perhaps you have worked in interdisciplinary project teams before? Great, then you should definitely keep reading!
