We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated EU qualified lawyer to support a wide range of regulatory/compliance and product matters in Europe with a particular focus on DACH and Central Europe. This role will be based in Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam or Paris and will play a central role in the EMEA legal team.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting our Trust and Safety organisation, advising on content moderation issues, content policies and user safety related legal matters in the EMEA region, with a focus on Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Central Europe (including, for example, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovenia);
- Lead on compliance with content regulatory frameworks such as NetzDG, JMStV and JuSchG in Germany and KoPl-G in Austria (to the extent not superseded by the Digital Services Act);
- Monitoring, reviewing and assessing new laws and regulations relating to content and safety, and helping to drive the implementation of new laws in the EMEA region, including the Digital Services Act, with a particular focus on DACH and Central Europe;
- Leading on regulatory engagement with regulators in conjunction with Public Policy;
- Supporting other in-house lawyers and our product legal team to review new products and features against relevant laws in the region, particularly DACH and Central Europe;
- Closely collaborating and coordinating with regulatory and litigation lawyers, product, public policy and communications teams on regulatory matters and policy strategies, external communication, and investigations; and
- Working with and managing external counsel as necessary.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7+ years experience.
- Experience in regulatory and/or product legal compliance role from a well regarded private practice team or established in-house department preferred. Given the developing nature of the field of content regulation, however, we are open to candidates from a range of practice areas, including those with data privacy or litigation experience, for example.
- An ideal candidate would have some or all of the following attributes:
- Background in consumer-facing tech and/or digital media, or a solid understanding of these industries from private practice;
- Experience advising on laws relating to user generated content, in particular NetzDG, JMStV and JuSchG in Germany, KoPI-G in Austria and the upcoming Digital Services Act in the EU;
- Ability to manage a large number and variety of high profile and strategic projects and navigate ambiguous legal and regulatory environments; and
- Previous experience of advising on the practical implementation of new laws;
Base requirements: - Ability to work as a team player who can effectively work with, manage and coordinate colleagues, internal stakeholders and the business;
- Fluent German and English speaker;
- Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity; and
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and proficient in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organisation.
