Your future plans
The US Gas & Power Desk is a purely proprietary fundamental trading desk that has been trading North American energy markets since 2012. The desk is functioning as an asset-free financial participant and as such we are able to carefully select which markets to trade based on opportunity and confidence. We are looking for a senior gas analyst who would both maintain the extensive analysis that we have, as well as drive further improvements to our US national and regional natural gas S&D models. As the owner of the gas analysis suite, you will oversee the entire analytical value chain, from data sourcing, to modelling, and output visualization.

You will work closely with a team of traders and analysts to help shape the fundamental view upon which we enact our trading strategies. Your strong commercial mindset allows you to instinctively translate fundamental developments into market impact.

Your tasks will include:

• Research, analyse and track changes in all fundamental drivers for regional US markets
• Develop accurate, stable, automated and often data intensive analysis tools to transform fundamentals into market relevant signals
• Follow relevant news, regulator and market design proposals, assessing their impact on respective US commodity prices and effectively update the traders
• Work together with external data providers and internal interfaces to ensure efficient processing and maximum value from subscribed or freely published market information
• Conduct statistical and quantitative analysis on large data sets, exploring alternative trading strategies and challenging fundamental analysis derived market signals
• Communicate your fundamental and market view, and when necessary challenge the opinions of others within the team
• Actively participate in the RWE Supply & Trading GmbH Analyst Community; assist in the communication of the desk fundamental view to other teams and the broader RWE group as needed

Your powerful skills

• University Degree in a numerical and analytical field such as Maths, Finance, Engineering or similar
• 3+ years of experience in natural gas markets (not necessarily US), including building gas balances and modelling S&D components
• Very strong quantitative and analytical skills; extensive experience working with large data sets and modelling fundamental market drivers
• Experience with Python (NumPy, Pandas, SciKit-Learn, seaborn, plotly) in a professional context
• Self-directed and structured working style with the capability to both innovate and prioritise analytical tasks
• Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge between analysis and trading with an interdisciplinary approach
• Flexible and highly motivated team player, ability to work in a trading environment and to meet tight deadlines
• Language skills: fluent in English

Advantageous, but not a must

• Relevant market knowledge of US gas markets including pipeline flows, S&D components and basis pricing
• Experience in establishing a new analytical framework for a market and/or adapting new analytical techniques to markets
• JKM and LNG fundamental knowledge
• Dremio and/or Databricks experience
• Familiarity with Tableau and SQL
• Basic German
