The Microbiological Category Support team at Beiersdorf delivers microbiological claim & product support and discovers and qualifies novel antimicrobial strategies to address unmet consumer & product needs in skin- & healthcare.
We are seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join our dedicated team. As successful candidate, you will apply your micro-/molecular biological & drug discovery skill set as well as your “out of the box” thinking & creativity for the proactive coordination and driving of our in vitro microbiological claim support and antimicrobial discovery activities on various levels.
This includes joining our efforts in:
- the high efficiency identification, screening, documentation & qualification of new innovative antimicrobials ensuring the combination of high clinical efficacy, safety & sustainability, in line with general business requirements.
- the design, creation, digitalization and automation of microbiological claim support, ingredient screening and data analysis
To do so, together with the team, you will:
- identify and qualify green antimicrobial technologies.
- collaborate with academia, startups, CROs & larger companies in drug discovery, cosmetic ingredient suppliers, and related fields.
- implement or develop and monitor microbiological test set-ups allowing manual or robot-based low-, mid- to high-throughput screens in vitro & ex vivo while empowering in vitro to in vivo predictivity to ensure clinical efficacy.
- initiate & evaluate clinical studies of suitable candidate technologies to support the development of new market-ready antimicrobial products that meet consumer needs and regulatory requirements.
- design and test novel microbiological concepts in silico, in vitro and in vivo for unique and resonating product claims using AI, assays and robotics.
- implement new processes and workflows for a posteriori data analysis (AI, etc.) and visualization (PowerApps, etc.).
- collaborate internally with a plethora of cross-functional stakeholders, including biologists, chemists, data & formulation scientists, regulatory affairs, and toxicologists, but also businesspeople & marketeers.
This position is temporary for two years.
- You are a versatile, creative & modern natural scientist merging wet lab experience and in silico abilities, combined with the interest in creating products that have an impact on the daily life of our customers.
- You hold a PhD in either molecular biology, chemical biology, microbiology, pharmacy, biochemistry, or a related field and strengthened or diversified your scientific skills via dedicated postdoctoral training.
- Ideally knowledge of the pharmacology of antimicrobials (non-antibiotic) & drug-target interactions combined with a good understanding of general organic chemistry. Knowledge in the field of biodegradation is a plus.
- Experience in low-, mid- to high-throughput assay design, performance & supervision, optimization, and analysis incl. statistics.
