At the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Chair of Landscape Ecology, we are recruiting, subject to allocation of funds, from 01.01.2024 within the project "Optimising raised bog restauration and monitoring in practice - ecosystem services, monitoring and knowledge transfer (OptiMuM) - scientific support" limited until 31.12.2026 the following position:
Research Assistant (m/f/d)
EG 13 TV-L, part-time employment, 30 hours/week, limited, project position
Tasks and Responsibilities
- collaboration in the establishment of the field trial and the restauration measures
- preparation, implementation and evaluation of vegetation surveys and collection of accompanying indicators (soil moisture, bog oscillation, etc.)
- validate the vegetation data by comparing them with relevant vegetation databases and overlaying the collected data with aerial photographs (drone flights) for vegetation classification.
- test innovative, areal and fine-scale mapping methods
- modelling of vegetation development to predict the time periods until the desired restauration success is achieved, development of typical high moor biocoenoses
- close exchange with project partners
- participation in project meetings and symposia
- publishing research results
Requirements
- completed university studies (state examination, diploma, master's degree or comparable degree) in biology, agricultural sciences, landscape ecology, or comparable courses of study with at least good result
- previous knowledge of botanical species and vegetation mapping is desirable, as well as practical experience in publishing research results and data analysis in R
- ability to drive official vehicles (driving licence class B)
- minimum physical fitness for field work
- good written and spoken German and English language skills
- ability to communicate and work in a team
