The Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biosciences (IQCB) is being established at JGU as an interdisciplinary central research facility at the interface between the life sciences and neighboring quantitative disciplines including mathematics, computer science, physics, and chemistry. Based on the central campus, the IQCB is close to several top-level partner institutions funded by the Max Planck Society, and the Helmholtz and Leibniz Associations. In the spirit of its namesake, JGU espouses scientific innovation by bringing together ideas and methodologies from different disciplines. In furthering this mission, the IQCB brings together like-minded researchers from diverse backgrounds to answer multi-layered research questions in the life sciences that involve large and complex datasets, necessitate quantitative analysis, or benefit from advanced modeling and machine learning approaches.

• the continued development of an IT infrastructure tailored to the needs of the life sciences in close collaboration with the JGU Data Center
• identifying and providing IT solutions for individual as well as general issues encountered by members of the IQCB
• facilitating communication and knowledge exchange between the multiple research disciplines and the JGU Data Center regarding hardware usage and data processing
• preparing and conducting workshops and lectures to introduce scientists to the HPC infrastructure, networks, and data management systems at JGU
• serving as the first point of contact for the members of the institute and the data center for IT-related topics concerning the life sciences
• Content conception and organization of scientific-technological events

• Completed scientific university studies in the field of computer sciences, bioinformatics, computational biology, (bio)physics, mathematics, or related fields, preferably with a PhD
• In-depth knowledge of life sciences and informatics to understand and communicate the needs and requirements across this interface
• Experience with UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems and utilities, tools and applications used to deploy web servers and maintain software
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, R and Matlab
• Ability to communicate complex issues effectively to people with diverse scientific backgrounds
• Service-oriented working attitude
• Very good command of both written and spoken English and German

The position is paid according to EG 13 TV-L and to be filled as soons as possible with an initial contract until 31.12.2028. A long-term perspective is contingent on the applicants´ performance as well as a positive external evaluation of the IQCB scheduled for 2027.
