Chair and Institute of Automatic Control
The Institute of Automatic Control, headed by Prof. Heike Vallery, is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, where it represents the disciplines of automation and control engineering.
The aim of the project team in the research project "VirTuOS" is to develop and implement a test bench for the main converter of wind turbines, which requires a precise emulation of simulated components on a multi-megawatt power level. Parts of the real-time simulation are geographically distributed and coupled via Internet to the test bench. To simulate the effects of the network, a simulation model was developed. This model requires further improvement, alongside parametric studies and controller implementation. For this, we are looking for motivated students to assist us in the upcoming work.
- Bachelor's degree and immatriculation in a consecutive course in automation/electrical/mechanical engineering or a similiar study program
- Experience in MATLAB/Simulink
- Independent, structured, and thorough working style
- Ideally: experience with networked systems
- Ideally: experience with dSPACE hardware
- Review and improvement of existing network simulation model
- Controller implementation
- Compiling implemented software to dSPACE real-time hardware
