To strengthen our department Nature Conservation, subject area Innovation, Sciences & Solutions in Berlin, we are looking for a qualified person as soon as possible limited until 30.06.2024 in part-time employment ( 20hrs/ week) for the following position:

Working Student (m/f/d) GIS & RS Monitoring of Biodiversity & Agroecology in Africa & Asia

Your responsibilities:

• satellite Image Classifications with existing scripts and supporting the development of automated scripts.
• spatial data processing
• analysis and visualization of spatial data
• research of data sources, existing concepts and tools and exchange with other organizations.
• organization of metadata
• development of scripts in GEE and other platforms.
• technical Support in the cooperation internally and externally.
• help with general ad hoc GIS and administerial task of the space + science team.

The goal of this position is to support our remote sensing team in various tasks including to daily remote sensing related work, geo-spatial analysis and monitoring and evaluation of WWF’s conservation goals, related to agroecology and biodiversity monitoring in KAZA (Kavango Zambezi TFCA, ), e.g. running image classifications and supporting the further development of the remote sensing Monitoring tool ().

Your requirements:

• university degree (at least Bachelor or in final year of Bachelor) in one of the following areas: Remote Sensing, GIS, natural resources management, environmental sciences, engineering, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning, data science & communication or related fields
• excellent Remote Sensing coding skills working with python, GEE, Github, and R.
• experience of working with Sentinel and Landsat satellite images, land cover classifications, dry forest landscapes, substantial agricultural practice, time-series analysis or monitoring with satellite images is a plus.
• excellence GIS and data analysis skills working with either QGIS or preferably ESRI suit (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS online).
• excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• fluent in Business English, Desirable: fluent in German and/or other languages.
• organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• ability to work in a team and a high degree of commitment.
• confident use of MS Office and experience with literature, geodata and internet research
• residing in Germany
