At Conestoga, our Facilities Management department is looking for a qualified HVAC Technician responsible for the daily on-going operation, control, repair, preventative and predictive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, gas-fired appliances, and all associated fittings and piping at a variety of college locations.
Our successful candidate will be primarily based at the Conestoga Skilled Trades Campus, located at 25 Reuter Drive, Cambridge, Ontario. This position may provide support to other Conestoga locations as well.
- Maintain, update, and repair HVAC-related building support systems, including building environmental technologies such as digital controlled interfaces, heat recovery systems, motors, humidification systems, re-heat coils, heat pumps, cooling towers, rooftop heating and cooling systems, boilers, and pneumatic and electronic controls
- Monitor, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems
- Perform scheduled predictive and preventative maintenance and repair on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment
- Ensure code compliance of systems by performing inspections and testing
- Prepare required documentation, update manuals, and provide information regarding work conducted for input onto the computerized maintenance management system
- Source information and parts by contacting vendors, technical libraries, and the internet to estimate material quantities and costs for projects and repair activities
- Purchase required materials via purchase order or corporate credit card
- Provide technical information and support to skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled staff as required
- Install and commission new heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment
- Monitor building systems through advanced computer programs and software
- Monitor and inspect work performed by contractors, trades workers, and mechanics and report findings and or discrepancies to the Manager of Operations and Maintenance
- Journeyperson – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (313A Certificate of Qualification) in good standing within the Province of Ontario is required
- Minimum of eight years of practical experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing old and new systems after the attainment of a Certificate of Qualification is required
- Gas Technician II certification is required; Gas Technician I certification is an asset
- Ozone Depletion Prevention Card (CFC Certificate) is required
- Working knowledge of the Energy Act, HVAC related Code, CSA standards, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Ability to foresee and interpret problems before they become serious
- Ability to follow wiring schematic associated with a variety of types and makes of equipment
- Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading from architectural to mechanical drawings
- Ability to recognize and act on safety hazards
- Building management control systems, including Pneumatic and DDC
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must be a customer, team-oriented, and self-motivated individual
