The UrbanNaturePlans+ (UNPplus, UNP+) project will help develop the next generation of Urban Greening Plans in selected European cities (Mannheim, Berlin, Leipzig, Burgas, Belgrade, Paris, Barcelona), aiming to foster a systemic, integrated, and inclusive planning framework toward bending the curve of biodiversity loss. The UFZ will contribute to UNP+ by advancing citizen science to monitor biodiversity (with a focus on butterflies), and empower citizens and administrators to take more informed decisions on urban green areas. The candidate will advance citizen science efforts; and participate in analyzing how green spaces improve health, wellbeing and equity, as part of a contribution to the implementation of the Berlin Urban Nature Pact.

- Employ citizen science as means to assess biodiversity in urban green spaces in Europe.
- Engage in capacity building for expanding citizen science activities in “Greening cities” in Europe, focusing on butterflies as indicators of biodiversity and their analysis
- Explore means to maximise participation of minorities and marginalised groups.
- Contribute to the conceptual establishment, and practical implementation, of the Berlin Urban Nature Pact as means to incorporate the principles for sustainable and just cities.
- Participate in assessing the contribution of Urban Green Plans to spatial and environmental justice, and fair distribution of benefits provided by green spaces, with particular focus on health and wellbeing.
