» Your tasks
We are searching for a highly motivated and qualified scientist with research interests in the area of natural physio-sensory influences on neural encoding of motivational behavior and learning in health and metabolic disease.
You will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary newly established research group, focusing on the identification of physiological mechanisms underlying neuro-cognitive impairments and altered gut-brain interactions in metabolic disease
In the particular project, we are interested in understanding how natural sensory influences (e.g. sound, light and specific characteristics of natural surroundings) affect gut-brain communication and neural encoding of learning and motivation in healthy humans and humans with metabolic syndrome. The project is part of an EU-Horizon project with the overall goal to investigate the benefits and underlying mechanisms of nature-based interventions on human health and well-being
You will work under the joint supervision of Yue Zhao (Head of Research group tumor microenvironment, tumor metabolism and therapy resistance from Department of General, Visceral, Cancer and Transplantation Surgery and Dr. Ruth Hanssen (Head of Research group Translational Metabolism Research, Policlinic for Endocrinology)
Ideally, you have experience in neuroimaging and statistical analyses.
Applications from candidates who recently obtained their Diploma/Master degree in psychology or a related field including neurosciences, physics and lifescience or sports science are invited
» Your Profile
You should have a strong interest in neurobiological research
You will be actively involved in data collection, analysis and collaboration with the international EU-consortium of the EU-Horizon project so that very good language skills in English and good langue skills in German will be required
You will be able to join the IPHS or IPMM PhD program of university of Cologne, so that good scientific writing, presentations and communication skills are appreciated and will be trained in this project as well

Polyclinic for Endocrinology, Diabetology and Preventive Medicine in Cologne deals with all diseases in the fields of endocrinology, diabetology and metabolic diseases as well as preventive medical issues. Through a close connection, also in terms of personnel, with the Max Planck Institute for Metabolic Research in Cologne, we conduct both basic and clinical research in these key areas as part of the University Hospital of Cologne.
