The Argelander Institute for Astronomy (AIfA) at the University of Bonn is an academic, research and
educational institute that is part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The AIfA has strong links with
the neighboring Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy and the University of Cologne.
The AIfA offers a comprehensive M.Sc. curriculum in astrophysics and hosts more than 100 scientists. We conduct
cutting-edge research in a wide range of theoretical and observational topics, from star formation to cosmology.
AIfA scientists are involved in major international projects such as ALMA, SRG/eROSITA, CCAT/FYST, Euclid, Simons
Observatory, and Athena.
Argelander Postdoctoral Fellowship
The AIfA invites applications for an Argelander Postdoctoral Fellowship that honors Friedrich Wilhelm August
Argelander (1799-1875) and his first modern sky survey. The appointment is expected to start no later than fall
2024, for the duration of three years. The fixed-term employment takes place within the framework of the
Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).
Your tasks:
• Independent and self-organized research within or closely related to the
institute's research focus to strengthen the institute's scientific profile and
international collaborations,
- Development of external funding strategies to establish an independent
research group,
- Co-supervision of students.
Your profile: • You have recently completed a Doctorate in astronomy, physics, or a related
field,
- You have a deep understanding of your research area,
- You are able to work independently and take a high degree of responsibility
for your research,
- You have excellent communication skills and are able to represent yourself
and our institute in a professional manner,
- You have a very good command of written and spoken English.
