We are currently offering the following role, to work in our office in Mannheim:

System Developer Confocal Microscopy (d/f/m)

Modern confocal microscopes offer unprecedented views into the vast and manifold structure and dynamics in all areas of life science research. Together with advanced digital solutions, these instruments generate insights that help improving the understanding of function and processes of biological units.

In this position, you will – as part of our open and customer-centric minded team - develop future generations of confocal microscopy platforms by investigating, assessing and incorporating new methods and technologies.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, build and test advanced microscopy systems and ensure that the components of the system are integrated and function as a whole.
• Conceptualize, develop and improve our core technologies (i.e. acousto optics, photo detection modules and scan modules).
• Determine the overall structure of future confocal microscopy platforms in collaboration with our teams, organize the interaction between components and evaluate the influence of the environment.
• In close coordination with our team from operations you will ensure the manufacturability of complex systems.
• Part of your responsibilities is it to look out for new and relevant technologies by observing the market and scientific developments.
• Build and characterize lab-prototypes to evaluate new technologies and concepts.
• Help in ensuring our competitiveness by actively working with the IP department to protect our innovations.

YOUR PROFILE

• Degree in physics, engineering, or other relevant disciplines with first relevant experience in project work and industrial research.
• Motivated and open personality with the desire to learn and develop.
• Knowledge in core technologies of confocal microscopy (acousto optics, photo detection modules and scan modules).
• Hands-on experience with advanced microscopy methods such as STED or Multi-Photon microscopy are a bonus.
• Proficiency in scripting languages for fast prototyping (e. g. Python or Matlab).
• A structured approach to problem analysis and solution, solution-oriented work ethics.
• Experience in project and teamwork in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams, understanding of economic relations and dependencies.
• Fluent knowledge of English and ideally German.
