Chief Clerk - Payment Services (17325) - TG-, location at Mainz-Kastel District Office
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM; m/f/d
Must be able to speak English almost fluently
I. Summary:
Under minimum supervision this position is responsible for processing transactions through the various payment systems applications, GEVA, AccessPay, OnBase, Bundesbank, CashPro, CREDEM, Barclays, TARGET, SWIFT and any other payment system and/or application necessary for completing daily tasks. Will utilize Fidelity (or similar) and the Microsoft Suite applications for tasks related retention, and to booking customer accounts or general ledger accounts. In addition the incumbent will work with business partners in ensuring applications are kept current, security access is controlled and updates are installed.
II. Principal Accountabilities:
Responsible for executing and controlling all required payment transfers over the appropriate payment system, GEVA, TARGET, SWIFT,BACS, AccessPay, CoBa, etc.
- Responsible for calculating daily funding requirements for each of the settlement accounts and calculating the sterling amount to be placed on an overnight basis.
- Responsible for training and coaching.
- Prepares monthly statistical data related to volume of payments processed transaction frequency and quantity, number of credits and/or debits processed or not, with notes added as to what steps were taken and why the credits or debits could not applied.
- Ensures software applications are functioning optimally and updates have been made to the applications correctly and in a timely manner, liaises with vendors to resolve open issues.
- Monitors Encore Work Queue and ensures all requests have been resolved or have notes entered indicating the status of the request.
- Ensures end-of-day balancing and reconciliation is complete and accurate prior to leaving for the day.
- Participates in projects that are related to the sections activities.
- Researches and resolves any open issues brought to the sections attention by clients, banking centers or partner banks.
- Works together with Home Office in resolving open reconciliation issues.
- Works together with the Training and Procedure units to ensure they are kept appraised of changes.
- Replaces the Chief Section Leader in their absence.
- Performs other reasonable duties as required.
Knowledge & Skills
III. Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of German and International payment systems
- Experience in functioning as a Banking applications Security Administrator.
- Extensive skills in Windows, Word and Excel
- Sound Knowledge of check clearing processes and procedures
- Sound accounting knowledge and skills
Experience in finding solutions to issues and good organizing skills.

V. Education and/or Experience.
A German Bankkaufman and Bankfachwirt certificate desirable, alternatively a Bachelor’s degree in German Business Administration (or equivalent) or higher and a proven ability to work and understand payment software solutions.
