The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world´s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2,9 billion euros.
Adaptivity is an indispensable property for the networked world of tomorrow. Intelligent components can detect changes in the environment or in the system itself, evaluate them and adapt to them independently. As a partner of industry, Fraunhofer IIS/EAS develops key technologies for adaptive systems with about 100 employees at the Dresden site and offers innovative technologies and robust solutions.
The project »MoNeQua« (Modular Nano Electronics for Quantum communication) of Fraunhofer IIS/EAS aims at advancing novel, secure and quantum-based communication schemes from lab demonstrators to industrial applications. This goal is reached by designing and realizing compact and highly performant electronics, such as time taggers and ultra-fast DACs/ADCs, adapted to the specific requirements of quantum communication protocols. About 6 engineers work in different work packages of the MoNeQua project, develop electronics and software, and realize optical setups for quantum key distribution (QKD). Another aspect of the project is the characterization of relevant (opto-)electronics for QKD and especially of single photon detectors (SPADs). For the SPAD characterization a measurement setup including software control of light sources and read out of the SPAD signal is required. We offer a position as student assistant or intern for realizing this setup.
