Support Staff Temporary Full-time Appendix D Contract Replacement Position (January 2024 – June 2024)

We require a qualified individual to maintain the equipment in the electrical labs and other shops within the School of Trades & Apprenticeship.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department working on-site five days per week at the Reuter Skilled Trades Campus. Please note occasional work may be required at other campuses as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnoses faults and repairs lab equipment
• Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment by contractors when required
• Ensures all repairs are recorded and compiles reports for faculty and management
• Recommends to the Chair and faculty new training equipment to meet program needs and assists in the evaluation of equipment prior to purchasing
• Performs incoming inspection and installation of new equipment and shows faculty how to safely use equipment
• Recommends to the Chair and faculty modifications to existing equipment to meet program needs and designs, constructs, installs, and modifies equipment in consultation with the program team
• Shows faculty how to safely use modified equipment
• Performs preventative maintenance of equipment and maintains appropriate preventative maintenance records
• Evaluates equipment and supplies prior to ordering, and prepares purchase requisitions for supplies and shop/lab equipment
• Maintains an inventory of all supplies and shop/lab equipment
• Vets suppliers to ensure fiscal responsibility and integrity
• Ensures that all rules and requirements are followed in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and College policies/best practices
• Responds to and addresses items identified on Occupational Health & Safety Inspection reports in a timely manner
• Ensuring facilities are maintained in a responsible, safe, and secure manner, including liaising with the Facilities department when required
• Coordinates work assigned to work-study or co-op students by their supervisor and guides them to ensure safe completion of their tasks

Qualifications:

• Certificate of Qualification in an Electrical field as a Construction and Maintenance or Industrial Electrician
• Five years of practical experience working in the electrical field
• Ability to operate complex electrical and automation equipment and systems and analyze resultant data
• Ability to work as part of the team and independently, demonstrating leadership and problem-solving skills
• Must be flexible and organized
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Computer literacy is required
• Willing to obtain and maintain certifications, such as forklift, first aid, propane handling, etc.
• Must be willing to upgrade his/her ability through courses, seminars, etc.
