Lehrstuhl und Institut für Regelungstechnik
The Institute of Automatic Control (IRT) is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, where it specialists in modeling, control and navigation of complex technical systems. Over the years, IRT has been accumulated a lot expertise in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), however in urban areas applications, GNSS signals encounter severe interference from multipath effects caused by dense buildings and trees, significantly degrading the positing accuracy. To tackle this challenge, "Firefly" aims to enhance GNSS capabilities by incorporating LTE and Pseudosatellite technologies, these technologies can transmit pseudorange and carrier phase measurements for positioning, so even in scenarios where some signals are distorted due to multipath effects, we can still obtain sufficient reliable measurements to augment the positioning solution. Additionally, we also apply sensor fusion with IMU data, further enhancing the robustness of our positioning solution.
- Current studies in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science,or related degree programmes
- Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink/C++, at least initial programming experience
- Ideally experience on satellite positioning
- Very good knowledge of English
As part of the "Firefly" project, you will support us in the following activities:
- Further development of satellite processing and integrity
- Pseudorange and carrierphase measurements
- Implementation of the Kalman filter for sensor fusion in Simulink
- Support for the equipment setup for the "Firefly" final demonstration
The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled by 3/1/2024 and offered for a fixed term of initially 3 months.
