At the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB, we combine biology and technology across competencies in our business areas of Health, Sustainable Chemistry, and Environment. For more than 70 years, we have been developing processes, technologies, and products and successfully bringing them to industrial application. We conduct research at our sites in Stuttgart, Leuna, and Straubing in close cooperation with numerous universities and research institutes in Germany and abroad.

What you will do

As part of a publicly funded collaborative project, you will work at our institute in Straubing on the development of catalytic processes for the production of synthetic fuels as sustainable alternatives for conventional kerosene and diesel. The processes follow power-to-X approaches and are based on the use of CO2 as a primary raw material. You will work on the process development from laboratory to pilot scale. Your tasks will include the planning, execution and evaluation of chemical experiments as well as the scientific exploitation and presentation of the results in research articles and at conferences. Another aspect of your activities is the scientific and technical support for the engineering and construction of experimental infrastructure, especially of reactor plants, for chemical process development. In addition to your scientific and technical tasks, you will also be responsible for supervising students and student theses.

What you bring to the table

• A very successfully completed scientific university degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or process engineering with a completed doctoral degree
• Strong interest in heterogeneous catalysis, gas phase reactions, catalytic processes and power-to-X technologies
• Solid knowledge in analytical techniques such as GC-MS, LC, NMR etc.
• Enthusiasm for working with complex eperimental equipment
• The ability to work independently on scientific tasks and to develop new ideas for approaching scientific problems
• Confident command of the English language, both written and spoken
• You like to take responsibility - for yourself and your actions

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The employment is initially limited to 2 years. However we are interested in a longer-term employment.
