THE POSITION As a Senior or Principal Data Scientist, you will challenge the Status Quo within Discovery Research and how we make data-based decisions. To achieve this, you will initiate or work on data science projects in collaboration with our subject matter experts to guide and support all groups of the Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) department. The DDS department comprises disciplines such as Research DMPK, Discovery Sciences Technologies, CMC, General Pharmacology, and High Throughput Biology. This means that you will work on applied AI- and machine learning projects covering a broad range of diverse medium to high throughput data, such as pictures, videos, bioanalytical, but also in vitro and in vivo data.
Tasks & responsibilities as Senior Data Scientist - In your new role, you will apply your scientific expertise to deliver impactful data science evaluations in collaboration with all DDS groups, Discovery Research Project Teams, and other internal data science colleagues. The groups of the DDS department comprise Research DMPK, General Pharmacology, CMC Discovery Sciences Technologies, and High Throughput Biology and allow performing data science evaluations based on data from diverse scientific disciplines.
- You will work closely with several functions across the globe as well as external academic partners and CROs. Your ability to successfully engage and collaborate with these stakeholders will be crucial in aligning data science initiatives and achieving shared objectives.
- You will actively participate or lead discussions with peers, interns/students, and neighboring functions to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration. Additionally, you will provide guidance and support to scientists involved in data analysis, not only within the DDS department but also across the organization. Your expertise will contribute to the overall development and growth of our data analysis capabilities.
- You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with all relevant internal and external regulations. This includes adherence to the BI Global Code of Conduct, promoting a culture of integrity and ethical conduct, as well as complying with environmental, health, and safety regulations (EHS) to ensure a safe and secure working environment.
Additional tasks & responsibilities as Principal Data Scientist - In collaboration with the respective associate director, you will contribute establishing a long-term concept for efficient and on time pre-clinical data science support for discovery research programs and translational studies.
- You will identify data science opportunities also outside of your key expertise in collaboration with our subject matter experts for impactful data science evaluations.
- You will be responsible for elaborating concepts for strategic partnering and continuous interactions with external providers.
- You will coach and inspire our people in the DDS department to grow according to AAI and empowerment principles by fostering team science and living and implementing empowerment principles.
Requirements as Senior Data Scientist - PhD in a field related to Computer Sciences, Physics, or Mathematics and in addition first years of experience in applied bioinformatics, data science or computational biology. Alternatively, master's degree with several years relevant experience in the field of bioinformatics, data science or computational biology
- Solid understanding of theory, principles, and statistical aspects of state-of-the-art data science with first experience in e.g., omics and/or advanced data analyses approaches
- Understanding on tasks and interaction of own function and basic understanding on business and structure of discovery research and other relevant neighboring functions
- Proven skills in data science
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Julia) and expertise in data science tools
- Expert knowledge in mathematics, digital, and data sciences
- Good knowledge on Drug Discovery and/or related disciplines
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate / work in multi-disciplinary teams
Additional requirements as Principal Data Scientist - Several years of experience to work in a matrix environment and in multidisciplinary, cross-functional, global teams.
- Successful track record of conceptionally supporting projects and decision-making in discovery research, and conceptionally driving the development and implementation of innovative approaches in advanced data sciences or data analytics
