We are seeking a motivated, dedicated and industrious PhD fellow with a keen interest in epidemiology, statistics and clinical research in the broad and fascinating field of tropical medicine. The PhD fellow will be based in Hamburg, Germany and must be able to work independently, and as a member of a multicultural, multidisciplinary team to carry out their duties.
Your tasks:
- Develop and conduct research components embedded in completed or ongoing clinical and epidemiological studies in Germany or African countries
- Analyse datasets from cross-sectional and longitudinal studies
- Support ongoing clinical studies of the Department of Clinical Research
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences
Your profile:
- University degree (Medical Doctorate) or equivalent expertise in medicine with quantitative analytical research skills
OR
- University degree (Master) or equivalent expertise in epidemiology or biostatistics with documented additional expertise in a related discipline, e.g. in public/global health, medicine, or social sciences
- Good quantitative analytical research skills, preferably including data management
- Good statistical analysis skills of datasets using Stata, or other statistical software
- Full proficiency in written and spoken English, working knowledge of German is not required but considered an asset
- Willingness and ability to travel abroad to conduct short-term (approx. 2-4 weeks per year) fieldwork in Africa
- Past work experience in low- and middle-income countries/Global South will be considered an asset
- Self-motivated, and ability to work conscientiously on complex tasks over an extended period of time
- Willingness to undertake activities in support of the Department
