The Mechanical Engineering Manager DACH (m/f/d) will be based in Frankfurt am Main and will lead the DACH engineering team in the design review, commissioning, testing and optimization of the mechanical and cooling infrastructure of all relevant NTT GDC EMEA DACH sites. The team will compile and report regularly and consistently on the condition and efficiency of the EMEA mechanical and refrigeration systems and identify opportunities for improvement. The team will assist in identifying and planning improvement projects and provide a regional overview of progress. They will review and approve the technical aspects of new designs within their region, high-risk modifications in existing sites and incident reports. They will also support the sites within DACH during abnormal operating conditions, incidents, provide training regarding their plant and lead follow-up investigations and analyses as needed. The Mechanical Engineering Manager DACH will coordinate the team in these efforts, work along side them on tasks of the team and therefore requires the same technical and procedural knowledge as his team members.
Your responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the Central Engineering DACH mechanical team in defining and implementing the NTT GDC EMEA Tech-Ops standards to ensure the DACH mechanical infrastructures are effectively operated, maintained, and optimised by the regional operations teams
- Establish regular communications with the site responsible team leads for mechanical systems to constantly improve interaction of the team with the site and delivery of the described support to the sites
- Carry out regular audits of mechanical plant performance regarding energy efficiency, derive optimisation measures ranging from set-point changes to plant replacement and implement in cooperation with operational, design and in-life teams
- Carry out regular tours of DACH sites to inspect local conformance to NTT GDC EMEA policies and best practice, carry out ad-hoc inspection of the mechanical & cooling infrastructure to make sure that its condition is being kept in a satisfactory and optimised condition to ensure all statutory rules are being followed
- Perform regular scenario trainings at DACH sites for hands-on training at specific mechanical equipment and identify training needs within the operational teams at the sites
- Regularly review and develop commissioning procedures, participate in commissioning and qualification activities
- Hold post-handover project lessons learned meetings to understand what went well and any areas of improvement found
- Develop scope of work documents with the NTT GDC EMEA in life team for live datacenter mechanical system replacement / enhancement projects
- Develop mechanical/cooling designs & strategies for new builds and in life projects
- Lead, develop and deliver training sessions to site teams so that they can better understand site systems and modes of operation of all mechanical equipment on site
- Have the ability to break down problems into smaller components, understands underlying issues, simplify and process complex issues, understands the difference between critical details and unimportant facts appropriate and escalate when required with strong input and guidance around options / recommendations
- Lead the team and develop realistic plans, set goals, align plans with NTT GDC EMEA Central Engineering objectives and coordinate with other team members
- Feed into the NTT GDC EMEA Central Engineering Monthly and Quarterly reports delivered to the business to demonstrate where we are with projects and team activities
Your profile
- Experience working in mission critical mechanical environments within a large company, IT/Telecoms industry preferred
- Experience in data centers or a similar environment is considered a significant advantage though not essential, this will be a key consideration should multiple candidates be assessed for suitability
- Subject matter experts understanding of mechanical systems technology, operations and maintenance
- Experience of working in a European multi-cultural environment
- Awareness of Root Cause Analysis management frameworks highly desirable
- Recognised European Health and Safety Qualification highly desirable
- C2 level in German language both written and verbal required, native speaker desirable
- C1 level in English language both written and verbal required
