The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in the Helmholtz Association is an international biomedical research center dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms of health and disease with the goal to devise new diagnostics and medicines. The MDC is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization, and offers an engaging research environment with cutting-edge research infrastructure. Currently, ~1250 employees and ~500 guest scientists work at the Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Mitte campuses. Our diverse workforce is a core strength that inspires creativity and innovation at the MDC.
The MDC is committed to improving human health through transformative biomedical research. Our goal is to pioneer discoveries for preventing, treating, and ultimately curing disease.
The Poulet lab
Our long-term goal is to identify neural mechanisms of sensory processing and perception. We investigate thermo-tactile perception in the mouse forelimb sensorimotor system. A mechanistic understanding of sensory perception requires an integrated approach. We combine cell-type specific electrophysiological and optical approaches with behavioral techniques to record and manipulate neural activity in the behaving mouse. 2 PhD positions (m/f/d) in the Poulet lab, starting April 1, 2024
We are looking for 2 enthusiastic, creative and collaborative PhD students (m/f/d) who are fascinated by understanding the neuronal circuit mechanisms of brain function. We have recently discovered neuronal circuits involved in thermal perception (Vestergaard and Carta et al., Nature 2023; Bokiniec et al., Cerebral Cortex, 2023) and want to take advantage of unique properties of the thermal system to drive forward our understanding of perception and sensory memory formation. You will work closely with other members of our team in a vibrant and collaborative environment.
- Enthusiasm and passion for fundamental questions in neuroscience
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
- Collaborate attitude to science
- Hands on skills for experimental work as well as programming knowledge for data analysis
Applicants with a strong interest or expertise in electrophysiology, two-photon imaging and mouse behavior are specifically encouraged to apply. The MDC provides state of the art research facilities and the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment of research excellence.
