Duties

The Political Specialist serves as an advisor and policy analyst for the External Unit in the Political Section and will apply his/her expertise in, and responsibility for, specific assigned regions, including European countries, the Indo Pacific, Africa, Middle East, and the Western Hemisphere. He/she performs analytic reporting for assigned sectors which may encompass all aspects of German foreign policy and relations with the European Union, focusing on their impact on U.S. interests. He/she establishes and maintains contacts with the German government, EU officials, Parliamentary staffers, and the foreign policy establishment (academia, institutes, press, etc.). He/she assists in arranging appointments for visiting officials, accompanying them when required and acting as an interpreter. The job holder works independently on his/her own initiative and coordinates reporting and analysis with other Locally Employed (LE) Staff in the Political and Economic sections at Embassy Berlin as well as at other posts across Mission Germany.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: please address this factor in your ERA application under major duties and responsibilities.

Three (3) years' experience in social science research, political analysis, or political reporting is required.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Political Science, History, International Relations, European Studies or Law is required.

Position requires fluent German language skills (reading/speaking/writing).
