To strengthen our department Transformation Markets & Politics, subject area Agriculture & Land Use Change in Berlin, we are looking for a qualified person by the date 01.11.2023 limited until 30.06.2025 for full time employment for the following position:
Global Lead (m/f/d) Ecosystem Restoration and Grasslands & Savannahs - provide strategic advice and support to WWF Global Practices (in particular the Forest and Food Practice), country offices and policy teams to elevate the profile of ecosystem restoration, protection, and sustainable management and nature-based solutions
- lead implementation of the Global Grasslands and Savannah Initiative (GGSI) globally and support implementation in priority countries
- identify and pursue emerging opportunities for WWF in regard to policies and advocacy, project and initiative development, and outreach, at global and national level
- lead fundraising and fund tracking efforts for GGSIs
- rally national offices to include ecosystem restoration in their fundraising efforts
- develop external engagement strategies, including communications, to ensure that ecosystem restoration, as well as protection and sustainable management of neglected ecosystems – such as grasslands and savannahs and forest ecosystems– is promoted on the international agenda, for positive impact on nature, biodiversity, people and climate
- support WWF's global advocacy for ecosystem restoration as well as protection and sustainable management of grasslands and savannahs at international events
- represent the WWF Food Practice in emerging coalitions and platforms whose focus is the conservation, sustainable management and restoration of grasslands and savannahs
- lead WWF relationship with the UN Decade secretariat and global partners as far as the aforementioned thematic topics are concerned
- support the promotion and implementation of existing initiatives and coalitions
- engage actively in the IKI project on Safeguarding Overlooked Ecosystems: Protect, Manage and Restore Grasslands and Savannahs in Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety Consumer Protection (BMUV)
- Master’s or equivalent degree in Environmental/Conservation Science, or other related fields with a professional understanding of international political processes
- at least five years’ relevant professional experience in conservation, environment or development work, ideally with some knowledge/understanding of ecosystem restoration and/or integrated land and seascape scale work
- proven experience in convening and coordinating virtual communities of practice in an international environment (particularly an NGO) would be a strong advantage;
- strong communication, interpersonal, coordination and negotiation skills; ability to engage and connect with a broad range of people, and work as part of a multi-dimensional team that cuts across the WWF Network.
