Excellent research and innovation are at the centre of the work of the HHI - Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications. We are a world leader in researching mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as the coding of video signals and data processing. In building networks of the future, wireless transmission with light (LiFi) will play an important role in addressing bottlenecks in radio-based systems. In the 5G-COMPASS project, new optical front ends for LiFi are developed for this purpose, for data rates of up to 10 Gbit/s. Be a part of our team and come on a journey of research and innovation!
What you will do
Participate in the development of an optical front-end for optical wireless communication
Planning, simulation, and assembly of the entire optical system
Experimental setup in the laboratory and characterization of optical components (e.g. lenses, diffuser, photoreceiver, laser etc.)
Documentation and evaluation of experimental results
What you bring to the table
Full-time student at a German university, preferably in physics, electrical engineering, communications engineering, with good to very good academic results
Good knowledge in the field of optics, ideally camera and laser optics
Proactivity and interest in scientific work
Good communication skills (German/English) and team spirit
Experience with ZEMAX OpticStudio (Ray Tracing and Physical Optics)
MATLAB or Python advantageous

The position is initially limited to 6 months. An extension is explicitly desired.
The monthly working time is 80 hours.
