The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (also known as CMS or the "Bonn Convention”) aims to conserve terrestrial, aquatic and avian migratory species throughout their range. It is an inter-governmental treaty of the United Nations concerned with the conservation of wildlife and their habitats on a global scale.
This position is located in the Joint Communication Unit of the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) Secretariats.
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Secretary of the CMS Secretariat, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning and implementation of communications and outreach and knowledge management-related work carried out by the Unit.
Responsibilities
1). Ensures implementation of the Unit's work to publicize priority issues and/or major events, to include drafting strategies, coordinating efforts, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate
follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome.
2). Develops and maintains all websites and other information management systems managed by the Unit for both the CMS and AEWA Secretariats.
3). Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion and press, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on appropriate action/responses.
4). Oversees activities to promote social media and media coverage (e.g. campaign, media kits, press-releases, press conferences, interviews, and other special activities) of priority issues and/or major
events.
5). Produces or oversees production of various types of information communications products including articles, publications, documents, statements and videos.
6). Identifies, initiates and maintains professional relationships with key partners.
7). Coordinates work of joint unit and performs general and routine administrative practices including effective budget and human resources management and stewardship.
8). Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
