Working Student – Data science and natural language processing in Nürnberg bei Fraunhofer Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen IIS

The »Future Engineering« research group works on data-based market, trend and scenario research in cooperation with the Nuremberg Institute of Technology. The focus is on developing automated systems for knowledge generation, trend analysis and decision support and making them available to companies and public organizations.

• You work with the latest technologies in industry and research projects, especially in the field of generative AI, machine learning and transformer technologies
• You use Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, BERT and Llama 3 to develop innovative solutions for current problems in industry and research
• You connect LLMs with topic-specific databases to build application-oriented RAG systems (Retrieval Augmented Generation)
• You use fine-tuning and prompt engineering to maximize the performance and precision of the LLMs
• You analyze historical and current data to create well-founded forecasts for future developments
• You take an active part in data integration and support the creation and optimization of ETL processes
• You support with the interpretation of data and the modeling of knowledge, as well as with the creation of AI applications

• You are currently studying business informatics, computer science, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence or a related course of study, at least in the 1st master's semester
• You have good to very good programming knowledge in Python
• You ideally already have experience with machine learning, AI algorithms and natural language processing
• You are already familiar with large language models and interested in fine-tuning and prompt engineering of these models
• You are a reliable team player and show commitment and a willingness to learn
• You are interested in working with us for at least 6 months or longer

Your start date and weekly working hours will be determined individually with you (as a student assistant from 12 to 20 hours a week). You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can flexibly determine the working days. After your studies, there are attractive opportunities to join the institute on a full time or part time basis.

We would be happy to offer you the opportunity to write a master's thesis in cooperation with us in the above mentioned subject area. The thesis will be assigned and carried out in accordance with the rules of your university. For this reason, please discuss the thesis with a professor who can advise you over the course of the project.
