POSITION SUMMARY:
Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the BMCHS Health Equity Accelerator seek to leverage open-source software and data resources offered by the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) Community to advance health equity research and outcomes for patients in Boston. The Research Data Analyst principal roles are: 1) to work with and alongside clinical researchers at all levels within the clinical research community at Boston Medical Center and Boston University to create research quality data sets and analytic reports using the resources of the BMC’s Data for Equity (D4E) Platform and the software and data stored within its OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) ; 2) support ongoing development and reporting related to tools and resources focused on Health Equity Informatics; and 3) to work with hospital research leadership and the OHDSI Community to strengthen connections with teams working on Health Equity Research.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help clinical researchers understand the data that are available.
- Work with clinical researchers to understand their data requirements.
- Translate data requirements to SQL queries in D4E to generated data extracts and analytic output for researcher use
- Provide formal written documentation of the dataset construction process, including inclusion and exclusion criteria and key definitions of data elements.
Other
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure data reliability.
- Understand and manage IRB restrictions on data access.
- Provide ongoing technical support for local and national users of the Health Equity Explorer (H2E)
- Provide on-going enhancements application and outcome measure analytics to H2E

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s-level degree with 5+ years’ work experience in relevant fields is required. Masters’ degree in applied biostatistics, applied math, computer science, computer/electrical engineering, systems improvement, or information science is preferred. At least 3 years of experience working directly with the analysis of clinical data within the OMOP CDM also preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Solid working knowledge, skills, and understanding of project and program management techniques and technologies.
- Basic knowledge of grant application processes/ability to interpret PI goals.
- Experience with data visualization and tools like Tableau preferred
- Able to perform budget planning, project planning and resource management for projects. Ability to understand processes and work flows, and contribute to improving them.
- Able to prioritize work with an appreciation and understanding of organizational drivers, mission, critical objectives and budgetary expectations.
