Klinik für Neurologie, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover; Zentrum für systemische Neurowissenschaften (ZSN)
The research group for Neurodegeneration and Movement Disorders in the Department of Neurology at Hannover Medical School is searching for a PhD student to start the project
Metabolomics to predict biomarkers and therapeutic targets for Parkinson’s disease with LRRK2-mutations using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells
In contrast to the use of human embryonic stem cells, there are no ethical concerns regarding the molecular reprogramming of human cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). In an ongoing project we have gathered several iPSC lines derived from genetic Parkinson patients including LRRK2-mutant and isogenic control lines. These iPSC lines shall be differentiated into dopaminergic neurons for metabolomics (detailed analyses of cellular metabolites) in order to gain insight into the biochemical pathomechanisms and develop novel biomarkers and treatment strategies. The quantification of metabolites in patient-derived iPSCs as well as the data mining will be performed in collaboration with the Core Unit Metabolomics (Institute of Pharmacology) of Hannover Medical School.
The preferred starting date for this PhD project is October 2024. The regular employment will be arranged by the administrator of the Department of Neurology, Hannover Medical School and the Center of Systemic Neuroscience Hannover (ZSN). The ZSN is designed to contribute substantially to the training of young scientists in the fields of systems neuroscience and to provide skills students will need for a successful research career. The payment will be a monthly net stipend of 1500-1800€.
Applicants must have successfully completed a university degree in medicine, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or in another field of the life sciences. Disabled persons will be preferred in case of equal qualifications. Applications including motivation letter, CV, overview of methods used in the past should be send by email preferably before 30th of April 2024 to:
