Airbus in Friedrichshafen/Immenstaad, Germany, operates the Laboratory for Enabling Technologies (LET). The task of the LET is to develop, enhance and prove technologies for future space missions and to support all future programmes, in general. During the last years, the LET builds up deep heritage and knowledge, in the field of laser metrology and Electric Propulsion (EP).
In order to enhance the in-house EP development of the Advanced Cusp Field Thruster, the LET hosts facilities to characterize electric thrusters and components required for several EP related development projects. In the framework of these activities, we are offering a thesis student position.

Development of test equipment for Electric Propulsion testing, such as thrust balance or plasma diagnostic systems.
Electric Propulsion thruster development, including testing of thrusters under development.
Cathode development by rapid prototyping.
Development of test facility automation and control systems.
And many other activities required in order to excel in Electric Propulsion Research and Development.
Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) in the area of Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Space Engineering or an equivalent field of study.
Hands-on experience in any technical field is desirable.
Basic programming knowledge Matlab, Python and/or LabView.
Good knowledge in your dedicated field of engineering.
Good knowledge and understanding of measurement and control engineering.
Basic knowledge of optical/laser engineering and plasma physics would be an asset.
Fluent English language skills and German would be an advantage.
